Abstract

Brazil, despite its prominent position in the world production of pulp, occupies a more timid position in the next link of the chain, the production of paper. In this context, the development agendas of these industries have different approaches. For cellulose, the agenda is based on the development and application of the concept of integrated biorefineries to create new products and processes that can maintain the competitiveness of the industry in the long run. In the segment of paper, some of the issues are short term and require more specific actions, while others are more complex and of structural nature, such as seeking the integration of new paper machines in large pulp mills.
