Dinâmicas produtivas e inovativas: perspectivas para o desenvolvimento sustentável da Região Norte

Abstract

This article addresses the agricultural dynamics in the Amazon and some of the World Bank’s theses that defend the existence of a trade-off between economic growth and environmental preservation. Here, this idea is questioned based on the concept of sustainable development. Technological change and structuring public policy are both essential to the success of the development strategy. We also contest the hypothesis of interaction and possible retro-supply between deforestation and poverty in the region, referred to as the poverty trap, by comparing several technological paths.
