dc.description.abstractThe automotive industry is extremely relevant to the Brazilian economy. After a brief portrayal emphasizing the importance of automakers and systemists, the present chapter analyzes the recent behavior and the future perspectives for the sector. The main drivers of its last growth cycle stand out: economic growth, income distribution and credit expansion. In addition, these elements also account for the actual crisis. Regardless of the crisis, this industry will undergo major new global changes. Thus, the chapter concisely describes the auto industry’s probable future. Finally, it is suggested that Brazil might learn from the international experiences to build its own modernization strategy.-
