Solar photovoltaic distributed generation market in Brazil is skyrocketing and it is mostly led by residences and small businesses allured by big savings on their electric bill. Almost all solar installations require imported equipment and the implementer is a key figure responsible for panels purchasing, projetcting, installation and even financing. The latter is the subject of the qualitative survey presented in this article, which was carried out with a total of six banks and two specialized fintechs. It became clear throughout the study that lending institutions did find their own way to serve these customers regarding customer segmentation, despite risks envolved. BNDES (the Brazilian Develpoment Bank) is essentially not considered as an option by small-scale clients and lack of accredited imported equipment is to blame for; strenghtening of accreditation process and solid communication may see a change in the pattern. Solar market is still promising and previous positive experiences should boost players to keep up actions towards sustainable development.-
