dc.description.abstractThe article 239 of the Brazilian Constitution allocated 40% of the collection of the Social Integration Program (PIS) and of the Program of Assistance to Civil Servants (Pasep) to BNDES aiming to fund economic development programs. Since 1975, the contributions to PIS-Pasep were the Bank’s main source of funding and, after 1988, this source was guaranteed to BNDES by the Constitution. The objective of this paper is, after thirty years of this decision, to consolidate the information and to provide a brief history about PIS-Pasep and the Workers’ Assistance Fund (FAT) during this period.-
