Em busca do desenvolvimento: o papel da política industrial

Abstract

A diverse range of countries have been implementing industrial policies aiming to promote economic development. However, efficacy of this mechanism has been object of intense debate among economists. The goal of this article is to discuss the main supporting arguments in favor of industrial policies, the critics against it and the empirical evidence on this matter. Our investigation suggests that, although a well-planned industrial policy might be beneficial, it requires a careful design to avoid adverse collateral effects.
