Biocombustíveis de aviação no Brasil: uma agenda de sustentabilidade

Abstract

In the Paris Agreement, signed at COP 21, Brazil assumed a series of international commitments to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases. Among the possible measures to be implemented in order to achieve this objective, the expansion of the use of biofuels is highlighted. Despite having a solid production of sustainable fuels for motor vehicles, there is no relevant development in Brazil regarding the production of sustainable aviation fuels. However, the country has a robust agricultural production, generating a large amount of waste and, consequently, low-cost raw material. At the same time, it has a well-developed domestic aviation market with great growth potential. In addition to these factors, the availability of technology and a set of public policies can also be used to promote the production and use of these aviation biofuels. Together, these conditions guarantee to Brazil privileged conditions to become a major producer of SAFs.
